The evolution of personal vehicles such as cars has significantly impacted human lifestyle. A segment of society thinks that the drawbacks of using cars supersede its benefits, while others have a different view. I personally advocate the former view to a large extent and my supporting points are given in the following paragraphs.
The first reason for my opinion is that the cars generally run on fossil fuels namely Petrol and Diesel, which emit exceptionally large amount of Greenhouse gases. These gases have extremely harmful effects on the environment as well as human beings as they cause air pollution, global warming and respiratory diseases. A recent study claims that the major factor contributing to rise in pollution and respiratory illnesses in Delhi is the excessive emission or carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide by private vehicles.
Secondly, cars are the root cause of as these cover the major portion of space available on roads. It is observed that people who work in offices prefer to travel by their own modes of transportation causing congestion on roads. This not only creates inconvenience to others travelling through public transport such as buses, but also increases the number of road accidents. Even the ambulances carrying serious patients or victims of road mishaps cannot find their way to reach hospitals on time because of traffic-jams, and it can be fatal sometimes.
However, cars are very useful and comfortable for all sorts of commutes ranging from short distance to long drives in every kind of weather conditions such as rains, summers or winters. Even so, these merits are not as important as public health and environmental protection, because the well-being of all living things depends on a clean environment.
Thus, from the above discussion it is quite evident that the advantages of using cars are outweighed by their disadvantages, as it is environmentally unfriendly and has deleterious effects on the health of humans.
