Band 9 essay sample

Some people choose a career that offers them higher social status and remuneration while others opt for a career that they enjoy the most. In my opinion, choosing a career that we love will certainly make our life more joyous provided that we are also able to earn enough.

There is no denying the fact that money is essential to lead a comfortable life. Without sufficient money, we will have to struggle to fulfill even the basic needs of our family. This will cause unhappiness. For this reason, it is essential to choose a job that enables us to draw a decent salary. Social status is also important for many people. Everyone wants to feel respected. A well paying white collar job automatically elevates a person’s social standing and makes them feel better. That is why many people want to become doctors, engineers or bankers. These professionals are held in high esteem in almost all societies. They also earn well.

On the other hand, in my opinion, our love for the job is equally important. Most people spend 8 to 10 hours a day at work. If we do not enjoy our job, we will have to drag ourselves to work every morning. In the long run, this will affect our efficiency and we may even get sacked. That means choosing a job just because the salary is good is never a brilliant idea. In the same way, choosing a low paying job just because we love it is not a good idea either. If our family depends on our income, it is important for us to find a job that earns us enough money. However people who hail from a financially sound background can work for love as they are not dependent on their salary.

In a nut shell, it is important for us to earn enough to fulfill our needs and wants. However, I will never recommend choosing a career just because the money is good. Nor will I encourage pursuing a low paying job just because we love it. It is important for us to find a common ground between these two extremes.
