Band 8 IELTS essay sample

Many individuals think that accepting miseries of life such as a boring job or a poor financial status is better than striving to solve those problems and making life more prosperous. In my opinion, individuals should work hard with persistence and that will yield them good results and allow them to enjoy their lives to their full potential.

On the one hand, there are multifarious reasons for people to accept their distressed life. Some of them having dependents might not be in a state to take risks. If individuals shoulder heavy responsibilities, they adjust themselves to be content with what they have and move forward. For example, a recent survey in India revealed that most middle-class people in the society are surrounded by family obligations as well as pressure from the community and even if their job is not highly paid, they end up doing the routine tasks and living a mundane life. There is a different category of people who are either lazy or are not confident about themselves. This group blames their surroundings and fate for their misfortune and believe that nothing can be changed to make their lives better.

On the other hand, another category thinks that it is desirable to explore other opportunities with perseverance and determination. Such strong-willed minds never give up, continue learning new things, and make the best of situations and possibilities. For example, consider Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former president of India who is also known as “The Missile man”. Kalam was born in a poor family, but he became successful over the years by becoming the chief scientist of ISRO and eventually the nation’s president, thereby proving that if a person discovers his passion and endeavors constantly for it, he/she shall taste success. Moreover, pushing the limits and achieving results by feeling the pain give a purpose for our existence.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that people should be forward-looking instead of settling for less. Obviously, there can be setbacks; but taking them as a learning experience makes a person stronger and gives him wisdom.
