Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample
Some people think that excellent educational skills help children to win bread and butter in future. Therefore, they encourage / force juveniles to study academics in their spare time as well. Although it helps youngsters to build a flourishing career, I completely disagree with this view.
To commence with, parents and teachers often put pressure on their children to outperform their peers in the class. This will have detrimental effects on both the physical and mental health of the children physical and mental health. Now-a-days, children are suffering from hazardous health problems such as obesity and diabetes. Poor vision is another problem affecting them. According to World Health Organization, these problems are being caused by the mounting pressure on children to earn fame for the school and to make parents proud. For instance, most renowned educational institutions in India such as Sri Chaitanya and Narayana force /compel their students to study over the weekend as well and this continuous pressure on students to study has led to a steady rise in the number of suicides among juveniles.
Secondly, adolescents who spend most of their time on academics might become socially aloof. They would isolate themselves from the world and may even refuse to mingle with their friends and family. To overcome these problems, parents should encourage their children to participate in volunteer work and play with their peers during free time. Moreover, they can take their children to farming lands and try to educate the importance of agriculture and afforestation. This makes them feel responsible for their environment. Teachers could also arrange a yoga or meditation session for children at least once a week to relieve them of stress.
To conclude, continuous pressure of academics would land children in umpteen health problems and make them socially inactive. Hence, I believe that children should not engage in academic activities when they get free time.
