While some people believe that charitable organisations / philanthropic orgnisations should help people living in any part of this world, others think that organizations doing charity should focus on serving the people of their own country. In this essay I will discuss both the views and argue in favour of the former.
On the one hand, there are people who support the viewpoint that charities should work to help the people of their home country. There are several reasons for this. Most of the time these charities depend on the support of local people. When locals donate to a charity, they mainly want the charity to work for the benefit of the local community. For example, people are unlikely to donate to an Indian charitable organization working to provide potable water in Africa because there are still millions of people in India who do not have access to safe drinking water. People want to support a charity that works to improve the conditions in their country. Another reason is that many charitable organizations have only a small budget. If they use their resources for the benefit of their community, it will improve their credibility and they will also be able to attract more donors. When charities work in the local community, the general public can get a better understanding of their work.
On the other hand, there are supporters of the view that charity should not be based on demographic criteria. I also support this argument because the main purpose of charity is to serve humanity, which should not be confined to any specific region. Those who are capable of helping poor people should certainly go ahead and help them. This way not only the world will prosper as a whole, but also the main aim of charity will be fulfilled, which is providing aid to the needy.
To conclude, charities should give back to the society they get their money from. If they are an international organization with a lot of resources, they should offer help everywhere. It would be better for small charitable institutions to work within their community as their resources are limited.
