In some parts of the world there is a ban on smoking in public places; however, there are still some countries which have no such rules / restrictions. Undoubtedly, passive smoking has serious repercussions for the health of non-smokers; therefore, banning is essential. Yet, a few countries are not imposing such bans as it might affect personal freedom.

On the one hand, some nations are not enacting laws against smoking in public, mainly because it might invade people’s freedom. In other words, these nations want to give full choice of freedom to their people / citizens. Furthermore, there is a lack of health awareness in some countries. For example, in Africa there are many deadly diseases, but lack of general awareness about health issues is still a deep concern. Therefore, such countries probably cannot think about banning smoking in public.

On the other hand, second-hand smoking has a deteriorating impact on lungs and heart of non-smokers. In other words, passive smoking is extremely deleterious as non-smokers’ lungs are not accustomed to smoke inhalation. Consequently, passive smoking causes dire consequences for pregnant women. As a matter of fact, it is proven that smoke has an extremely bad impact on a child who is in the womb. Furthermore, passive smoking in asthmatic patients or in elderly individuals causes respiratory failures. Therefore, banning in some countries is totally justified. In my personal view, smoking has a debilitating impact on individuals’ physical as well as mental health; thus, if we impose a ban on smoking, it will benefit public health.

In conclusion, there are some nations which support a ban on smoking in public; however, others are still not looking into the issue. In my view, smoking in public should be totally banned owing to its serious impact on public health.

Smoking in public areas such as workplaces and restaurants is prohibited in most countries. However, many nations continue to permit such activities. This essay will discuss both of these approaches and argue why it is important to ban public smoking.

On the one hand, countries that have entrenched a law against consuming tobacco support the idea that inhaling nicotine will deteriorate individuals’ health. They point to evidence from countries such as Bangladesh which has the highest incidence / occurrence of smoking related cancer. Furthermore, they claim that smoking in public places has adverse effects on pregnant women and children. A recent study shows that people smoking in public places have a bad influence on juveniles; as a result, they start consuming tobacco from an early age. The arguments are convincing and imposing strict laws against smoking seems legit.

In these cases, proponents favoring smoking believe that it fuels the production and manufacturing industry, creating jobs for thousands of people. In this respect, tobacco has become the backbone of the economy of these countries. Moreover, governments generate huge revenue from taxes imposed on tobacco products. Needless to say, many countries have absolutely no intention of banning public smoking.

To conclude, admittedly, tobacco plays an important role in some countries. Nevertheless, they should accept the truth that it is very harmful to public health. Even if the tobacco business generates jobs, it cannot be supported because smoking hurts even those who do not smoke through the passive inhalation of nicotine. That is why smoking in public places should be forbidden.
