It is argued that long term job seekers who receive government assistance should offer voluntary service in return.  This essay supports this view and will further elaborate on the benefits in the forthcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, the person must be grateful that he or she is receiving government support in / during hard pinching times. To return the favour, they should offer service to the society / the government. The main advantage is that volunteering gives job seekers an opportunity to acquire crucial job skills. They can mention these skills on their resume and improve their chances of getting hired. Another advantage is that volunteering allows them to interact with people and build a network. This also improves their chances of finding a job. Yet another advantage is that being active and contributing to the society improves their self esteem.

Secondly, there is a saying that an idle mind is a devil’s workshop and it is true in the case of the jobless. They can get really frustrated without a job and this makes them vulnerable to drug abuse or other criminal activities. This is detrimental to the community and to the upcoming generation / future generation. Here voluntary work or activity prevents this by making the person engaged in an activity and creates a positive environment of giving, sharing, and caring for each other.

In conclusion, I strongly support the view that long-term job seekers who benefit from government payment must support the community in return. This helps them to build a network and prevents them from criminal activities and drugs.
