A number of studies have shown that some activities are beneficial for health, whereas others have detrimental effects on the health of people. Although the people are aware of the harmful effects of some of the activities, they knowingly indulge in them. In the following paragraphs vivid reasons behind this tendency are discussed and pragmatic solutions are provided.
To begin with, the first major factor that prompts people to consciously ignore the detrimental effects of some activities is stress. The fast pace of life / the exhausting pace of life has resulted in a lot of restlessness and impulsiveness in human life. To beat stress, many people start smoking and drinking despite knowing that these habits are injurious to health.
The other reason for people adopting unhealthy activities is the advancement of technology. Today, humans have access to numerous electronic devices such as mobiles and televisions which provide limitless entertainment. Thus, people prefer to spend free time by watching movies or listening to songs on phones or TV instead of going out and doing any exercise or yoga to relax their minds.
This tendency to indulge in deleterious actions can be eliminated through self-control, strong will power and support of near and dear ones. Self discipline encourages people to spend their time in physical activities rather than sitting at home. In addition, people should seek the companionship of family and friends to release their stress and tensions rather than consuming alcohol or cigarettes. This will strengthen their determination and gradually they will reduce the use of liquor or other narcotic substances. Neeraj Chopra, once an overweight teenager, became the first Indian athlete to win gold medal in Olympics, only with the encouragement of his family and self-motivation. So, internal as well as external motivation can play a crucial role in giving up bad habits.
To conclude, unwittingly embrace the activities which are harmful for health due to overly stressful life and negative influence of technology. Self discipline and family support are crucial to beat / overcome such tendencies.
