The pie charts depict the amount of electricity generated in Germany and France from all sources including renewables in the year 2009. Units are measured in Kilo Watts. Overall, it is evident that Germany produced more energy than France during the given year. While in Germany, most of the energy was produced from Conventional thermal sources, in France, it was largely produced from nuclear. In fact, Germany relied more on renewables unlike France. In Germany, more than half of the total energy (60%) was produced from conventional thermal sources and almost a quarter from nuclear sources (23%). Renewables accounted for 17.4% of the total production and much of it was produced from biomass and wind. Energy from hydropower and sun contributed 17.7% and 6.1% of the renewable energy respectively. In France, more than half of the energy generated came from Nuclear (76%) and only about a quarter from Conventional (10.3%) and Renewable (13.7%). Out of all the renewable energy generated, 80.5% came from Hydroelectric. Wind and Biomass contributed about 10.5% and 9.1% respectively, and solar contributed just 0.8%.
