Nowadays the waste produced in households and offices is a big menace. The amount of waste produced drastically increased in the last few decades and waste management itself has grown as a big industry. The reasons for this increase are wide ranging and the solution requires a collective effort from the individual level to the government level.
The first and foremost reason is the discovery of plastic and its excessive use. If we observe our daily routine, we can see that we bring in at least a few plastic bags or bottles in to our house. It is not only present in our house but also in every office and industries. We all know that it is not biodegradable and all we can do is to collect it properly so that it will not pollute the environment. Even if we recycle all the plastic and do not produce new plastic materials, the amount present in the world will be more are less the same. It addition, the population growth will increase per capita waste production and we are not just talking about plastic. If there are more mouths to feed then there will be more wet biodegradable waste and not to mention the sanitary waste. All these things are contributing to the current waste crisis which was not that much of a problem in the past.
The solution should start from the individuals and the individual households. To reduce the prevalence of plastic, there should be a reduction in demand for the same. We can keep a cloth bag with us whenever we go out and if we do not have it then we should use paper bags. Many governments have banned the use of plastic as a packaging) material and they need to effectively implement this ban. There will still be wastes coming out of the households, and a proper segregation, and separation of the dry and wet waste will help to dispose of them properly. Everything that can be recycled should be done so. Finally, every government should control the population to reduce the amount of waste they generate.
To conclude, population growth and the plastic use are the main reasons for the excessive waste production. The solution requires a collective effort of the citizens and the government and we should set an example for the future generation.
