The surge in the population of metro cities has become one the most leading issues. This can be attributed to the migration of people from rural areas to urban areas as cities offer better employment opportunities and living standards. The government can discourage this migration by offering similar opportunities in the countryside.

To begin with, owing to the rapid development of metropolitan cities, numerous businesses have been established there. Consequently, abundant job opportunities are available. For example, Hyderabad saw a major increase in its population after a plethora of MNCs around the world were invited to do business there creating job positions in and around the city.  In addition, urban areas are renowned for their dynamic culture. Cities are filled with restaurants and other recreational centres, which assist in accelerating one’s social life. Therefore, metro cities can aid people in obtaining a reliable source of income and social life.

The government can take various measures to decongest major cities. To start with, it should create more job opportunities in rural areas. For example, industries should be offered various incentives for setting up their factories in the countryside. This will prevent rural folks from wanting to move to cities. Building more institutes of higher learning in remote areas will also help.

To recapitulate, better jobs and a vibrant social life are the two major reasons that pull people towards cities. This problem can be resolved by the government by creating more job opportunities in rural areas.
