It is argued that individuals inherit personalities from their genes and they cannot be changed further. This essay strongly disagrees with the statement. Firstly, personality development of a human is based on the quality of the environment they are brought up and lives in. Secondly, the good and bad that the individual experiences during their life will influence their character.
To begin with, surroundings in which the child is being raised play a vital role in their personality development. Moreover, behavior of the immediate and extended family members has great influence on the personal growth of the child because they will grow watching them. For instance, my daughter always uses the word ‘Thank you’ and ‘Bye’ before ending the phone call as she observes me doing it when I attend the meetings. Also, she likes to put the call on the speaker as I do it during my official meetings.
Every individual is exposed to good and bad things in life. Times may get harder for a few people during the journey of life where they change themselves in order to get over the bad situations for good. These bad experiences / adversities / setbacks often build the character of a person and make them strong and empathetic. To illustrate, my friend faced a lot of financial difficulties after his father’s death. Now he always helps people who have financial issues to find a job.
In conclusion, though certain habits are inherited through genes, personality of an individual is shaped by the values given by the family and the maturity gained from facing hurdles in one’s journey.
