In recent times, sports players have become stars in the eyes of young people. They are followed and looked up to by the young generation.  Unfortunately, not all sports players are great role models. Hence young people must learn to follow the players for their good qualities alone. 

When we follow a sport, we tend to get attached to the players. Young people are no exception to this. There are lot of positive things to learn from these players. They are playing at the professional level because of the  hours of hard work, dedication, focus, determination, and resilience to failure they put in day in and day out. These are all qualities that needs to be appreciated, admired, and emulated. Say for instance the British Formula1 racing driver, in one of the Grandprix conceded defeat gracefully and congratulated his opponent. This was hugely talked about in the news, and this is a quality  for young people to look up to and follow. Therefore, having a sports player as a role model is a good thing.

However, these players are humans too. In every player’s life there will be the unpleasant moments. For example, one football player was in the news for the wrong reasons. He was found driving his car with phone in one hand and food in the other.  There have been occasions where players have behaved badly, used foul language on the courts or pitches, unable to accept their defeat. Not all actions they do are right. For this reason, we must use our discretion when following sports players. Young people need to realise this fact.

To sum up, it is good for young people to look up to sports players.  At the same time, it is important  for youngsters to also realise that these players are only human and are bound to make wrong choices.  Therefore, they should appreciate and learn only the positive qualities from the players.
