Band 8 IELTS essay sample
These days, advancements in technology have changed how people communicate with each other. This essay will first discuss the various technological impacts on individual relationships and also explain why this has negative consequences.
On the one hand, there are various ways in which technology has influenced the relationships of people. Firstly, telephones and the Internet allow people to interact instantly, thereby reducing the distance between them. In this way, this allows / enables people who are staying far away from families to be connected all the time. To illustrate, a survey conducted by a TV channel among people of various age brackets reported that 90% of them are in touch with their family and childhood friends through online applications like Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. Secondly, Skype services are being used by teachers for online classes without affecting their relationship with the students. Hence, advances in technology have made it easier for people to make relationships / people to interact with one another.
On the other hand, there are several reasons why the quality of interaction has significantly declined due to technological development / development of technology. These days, individuals prefer online chatting rather than face-to-face interaction. This kind of communication is hazardous for children as they need to socialise more. Online interaction is affecting children’s social development because nowadays they are mostly seen indoors with their mobile phones rather than playing outside with their peers. For example, a magazine report in 2019 showed that 70% of mothers have complained to the school authorities about their juvenile’s extreme usage of cell phones and the Internet. Thus, technology appears to negatively affect the tendency of a child to socialise these days.
To conclude, technology has made an enormous difference in people’s lives in terms of communication. However, I believe that technology also has some impact on people’s social and psychological development.
Some people think that in order to solve traffic and transportation problems, people should be encouraged to live in cities rather than in suburbs or in the countryside. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, traffic congestion has become a challenging problem in many cities. Therefore, a segment of the population believes that people should be promoted to reside in urban areas than the countryside to resolve both transportation and traffic issues. This essay completely disagrees with this aforementioned statement and shall discuss in the forthcoming paragraphs.
The major drawback of large individuals moving to metro cities is overpopulation and this leads to various hazardous issues such as pollution, homelessness, and global warming. In addition to this, people find difficulties in finding a decent job because of high competitiveness in the job market. For example, according to a survey conducted by Bangalore University, it was revealed that in the last 10 years, the migrated population density of Bangalore is greatly increased and localities are facing challenges to acquire a better profession and standard of living.
However, there are other various measures to mitigate traffic and transportation consequences. Firstly, the government or local authorities should provide effective public transportation like comfortable buses and local trains. This method reduces the usage of private cars which nowadays are heavily used by masses. Secondly, the government-sponsored awareness campaigns should be conducted in every part of the townships to educate citizens about the ramifications caused by heavy traffic congestion and its pollution. For instance, studies have shown that the Canadians are showing extreme interest in using public vehicles as their governments are frequently promoting campaigns to diminish issues related to transportation and traffic.
In conclusion, although some individuals put forth the statement of moving people to live in cities as a viable solution for traffic and transportation issues. However, in my opinion, there are certain possible solutions that the governments should initiate to tackle these effects.

Owing to this, pollution also increases and thus affects the natural environment.
On the flip side, there are other innumerable measures to reduce traffic congestion and transport problems. Firstly, the government and civic authorities should provide effective public transportation such as numerous buses, cars, and metro trains. people must utilize these vehicles to commute to their work or home and also they should reduce dependency on their private cars. Secondly, maintenance of proper roads, flyovers, and highways enables smooth traveling experience without any bottlenecks, that could harm journey time. Furthermore, carpooling is an effective way to decrease traffic jams because this approach offers seat-sharing with other commuters as well as it is very user-friendly. For example, in my country, India, the majority of the metropolitan city population uses sharing cabs like Ola, Uber, and so on as it is an easy and cheap mode of transport.
