Thanks to this digital age, myriads of amusement programs are easily accessible to netizens. While some people believe that such access can bridge the gap between the haves and the haves-not, in terms of their ability to access entertaining content, I believe that this exerts more disruptive influence on individuals and society.

It is generally acknowledged that the cost of being involved in such activities in person is exorbitantly high, so these opportunities were confined to those with wealthy backgrounds, previously. Conversely, the popularity of the internet entitles such opportunities to individuals with deprived backgrounds without being charged, reducing their difference, in this aspect.

However, it has been proved that free access to entertainment affects the work efficiency of some employees. This is mainly because the plots of films or the lyrics are very attractive, and the majority of individuals lack self-control and time-management skills. Consequently, they are more likely to spend a major proportion of their work time on enjoying these recreational activities, resulting in poor work performance. In addition, free access to these streaming services has been generating massive financial loss to entertainment industries. The process of creating a song needs a composer’ s several months’ dedication, but netizens can download their masterpieces easily and freely from some pirated websites. This leads to loss of revenue for those singers and composers, so most of them are struggling to make a living. This is true to film industry as well. The vast majority of cinemas have been raising the price of tickets of movies to recoup their monetary loss so that they can make ends meet.

In conclusion, although people with disadvantageous backgrounds benefit from such free access, it generates more drawbacks to the whole entertainment industry.
