The internet has changed the way education is being delivered in the modern society. While some people prefer online mode of education, others still recommend conventional way of teaching in the classroom. Both these approaches have their own advantages and disadvantages.

On the one hand, the advancement in internet technology has made online learning extremely convenient for students. Nowadays, most of the students possess advanced smartphones which run on 4G technology enabling them to learn from anywhere in the world. They do not need to go to schools or colleges and teachers can deliver their lectures over the internet in real-time and the recorded version of the same is also available for reference. Another benefit of online education is that lessons can be learnt at a pace convenient to students. Individuals have different learning ability and these tutorials provide them a platform to learn at the speed they are comfortable with. Thus, it helps them to grasp the course efficiently. Moreover, online education is less expensive compared to formal method because of stiff competition between companies providing such facility and this favours students. In order to score over their competitor, they provide a hefty discount on courses.

On the other hand, when students learn online, they do not get a chance to interact with teachers and their friends as they do in the classroom. This results in turning them into introverts which has a detrimental effect when they start their career in the corporate world. Furthermore, one effective way of learning is group study and online education does not facilitate this. This is available in conventional way of teaching which makes students outgoing and confident while working in a team. Also, it is difficult for teachers to conduct examination in the online mode. As a result, student’s progress cannot be tracked as it is done in classroom teaching.

In conclusion, online medium of education is convenient, cost-effective and promotes self-paced learning. However, it lacks in providing an opportunity to build confidence by interaction and discussion.
