Band 7 IELTS essay sample
Nowadays the internet has become the primary source of information, and evidently, papers are being replaced by e-books. While there are some drawbacks to this trend, as it might lead to sight problems, in my opinion, its benefits, such as rapid data availability and being eco-friendly, are way more than its shortfalls.
On the one hand, Internet usage has been increasing in the past decades. Most of the jobs require sitting behind computer screens for a long time. If individuals spend an additional time using computers for their research, they can face sight problems. This is because the screen’s UV is harmful to the human eyes. In addition, internet is not accessible in rural areas, and this will cause a significant problem for the people who live there to access the information online. On top of that, in some cases, the published date of the documents which are available online are not clear, and this might cause a confusion for readers. Furthermore, the information posted online is not well supervised, and anyone can post a document online. This may make it difficult to find a reliable data.
On the other hand, online information is accessible anytime and anywhere the internet is available. This will make it more convenient for the users. Moreover, individuals can access the information they want in a fraction of seconds. To illustrate, by typing a keyword on the search engines, people can find thousands of sites related to the topic which they are looking for. In addition, storing the information online rather than printing them on paper will help to preserve the environment. To illustrate, every year plenty of trees are cut down to produce paper, and this will lead to deforestation. However, having an online database will help us to have a more sustainable environment because there is no need to produce paper.
In conclusion, while it is true that there are some drawbacks to storing data online, in my opinion, the benefits of this practice are way more pronounced and can even save trees and time spent on research.
