With the advent of technological advancements, online social networks have become popular. It is true that a number of people have opted for virtual communication to a greater extent rather than meeting physically. I personally believe that this tendency has made communication easier but at the same time, it has affected the relationship adversely.
To begin with, poor relationship among family members is the biggest drawback associated with the digital connection. In the olden times, people used to get together and those gatherings bolstered their relationships. Nowadays, they are just sending greetings online. Hence, the absence of face to face socialization has led to lack of intimacy between friends and family. Worse still, people now have more friends online than the real world. Actually, many of them do not even know who their neighbours are.
Additionally, the phenomenon of becoming social online has affected one’s personality and development badly as it leads to isolation. Being confined to one place without going out and meeting people can lead to depression and other health diseases like cervical pain. However, one cannot ignore the fact that online connection facilities have bridged the time and space between people. This technology has also helped to maintain long distance relations because of convenience and flexibility available in this electronic mode.
In conclusion, technology has revolutionized the way people communicate. In my opinion, there are both positive and negative aspects to online communication between friends and family. While it has certainly eliminated the geographical barriers, it has also affected the warmth in the relationships.
