Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample

Modern people are living a fast-paced life and many of them desire to finish things promptly. I attribute this phenomenon to the advancement of information technology including the internet. In my opinion, it can be positive and negative at the same time.

The information technology has revolutionized every part of people’s life. It has changed almost every practice. Every service has become much more accessible and prompter in both businesses and individual’s daily life.  This can be exemplified by one trivial thing. People used to line up in the long queue to purchase tickets for movies in the past; however, this is not a conceivable case in the present. People book tickets in advance from home through online stores. They can even choose the seats. They can enjoy the movie on the reserved day without waiting. This means that film industry promotes sales by dealing with many customers within the limited amount of time and individuals consume this service with a few clicks away. As a result, people as a service provider or as a service user have become accustomed to immediate response.

While the technology has been playing a leading role in making services instantly available, there are both boons and pitfalls associated with this. The primary merit stemming from it is that it has boosted productivity remarkably. Through programs set up in a systematic way, businesses can handle more deals at one time and consumers can secure their own service in a quick order with reduced time and efforts. Both sides have had benefits from this feature.  However, some people are dependent on the technology so much so that they have become impatient. When they have to wait for a service, they often keep requesting faster service or when they cannot have access to the internet through computers or mobile phones, they easily get anxious.

In conclusion, an increasing number of people seek instant gratification today. The information technology has nudged people to embrace the fast life. I contend that this technology has brought conveniences to our daily life based on the unprecedented speed and at the same time, it makes people addicted and impatient. Thus, the technology is advantageous and disadvantageous simultaneously.
