Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample
These days, an internship has become a compulsory part of the university curriculum in which a student has to do an unpaid job in their prospective organization for a short duration. This process has numerous merits and a few demerits and in this essay, I will substantiate that the drawbacks of serving for free in a company can be overlooked when we consider its long-term benefits.
Looking first at the positives, the most significant advantage of doing internship is that it gives first-hand experience of the actual work scenario, and based on that the students can decide whether they are suitable for that job. In other words, during the internship period, the students acquaint themselves with the work culture, its different domains, and their tasks. Then according to their experience, they figure out their field of interest in which they want to build their career. Therefore, this working experience helps students to pave their career path. Furthermore, the chances of getting a job increase after doing an internship. The reason is that companies are generally looking for the potential candidates and if an intern proves his or her competence during that short period, then the company hires them as a permanent employee. Thus, it becomes a golden opportunity for students to get their dream job.
However, this process has some disadvantages too, especially when a student is from a humble background. As a matter of fact, these jobs are unpaid; therefore, it is tough for certain students to manage their expenses such as accommodation, food, and travelling charges. As a result, students suffer from financial crises.
In conclusion, although some students may encounter financial issues during internship, in my opinion, these problems can be ignored if we see the advantages that can significantly shape the career path of students.
