Band 8 IELTS essay sample
According to some people, museums and art galleries should exhibit artwork that reflects regional culture instead of foreign culture. I completely oppose this viewpoint because I believe that museums and art galleries serve as the best place for people of a nation to learn about the culture of another country, and they also contribute to the nation’s economy.
To begin with, people already have several opportunities to learn a lot about their country’s tradition and history from their elders at home or teachers at school. Therefore, they do not like to visit museum or art gallery that displays artwork of culture already known to them. However, they show a keen interest to gain knowledge of the culture of other countries that they cannot afford to visit and do not already have knowledge of. Thus, they like to visit only those museums which display the artwork of other countries.
In addition to this, when museums and art galleries display the history of a foreign country, they can make a financial contribution to a country’s economy. When museums display only native artwork, people do not like to shell out extra bucks to purchase the entry ticket because they feel they are not going to learn anything new. On the contrary, when people feel that they have an opportunity to grasp knowledge about the history of other countries, they are not reluctant to pay for the tickets. Therefore, museums that possess foreign artefacts can contribute to the economy of a nation.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that museums and art galleries should not limit themselves to local artwork; rather they should showcase foreign sculpture and artwork as this practice helps people to learn about the culture of other countries without leaving their country.

The main objective of museums and art galleries is to showcase materials which give information about the culture and history of a nation. Some people assert that only domestic history and culture should be on display instead of foreign work. I do not agree. In my opinion, museums should showcase a nice collection of both local and international works. In the following paragraphs, I shall put forth my arguments to support my opinion.
My first argument in support of displaying both local and international artefacts is that it increases overall awareness. In this modern world it is important for people to be aware of not just their own history but also the history of other nations. This increases the knowledge of people and thus enables them to learn from the mistakes and wisdom of previous generations.
Furthermore, when international artwork is placed in a national / local art gallery it can provide inspiration to local artists. They can compare their work with the works of celebrated artists, and may get a new idea which might sprout further creativity. What is more, local children visiting these museums will get exposed to traditional culture as well as global culture enhancing their understanding of people all around the world. Additionally, museums which display international work are more popular among locals, and generate more revenue. Lastly, an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of other places will generate curiosity among local people, and they would want to travel to those places to have a first-hand experience about culture and food. After returning to homeland, people become more tolerant of differences.
In conclusion, it is beneficial for local people to have an insight about history and culture of different places. I, therefore, insist that the authorities should display both national and international works of art in museums and art galleries.

According to certain individuals, museums and art studios should focus on native works instead of showcasing the foreign arts and cultures. I strongly disagree with the notion because besides being a vital source of income for these institutions the display of multinational arts and cultures helps enhance the vision of art lovers as well.
On one hand, if museums and art studios depict the cultural heritage of various countries it becomes full of attraction for the tourist of multiple backgrounds. They get awareness about different unseen places and ancient civilizations. Hence the blend of art and culture attracts the people of all ages and fascinates them more than viewing the regional arts only. For instance, the Lahore Museum has been the center of attraction for visitors over the decades because it exhibits the amalgam of arts and cultures of several civilizations.
On the other hand, when a large number of art aestheticians visit a particular facility it brings significant revenues for that venue which can be deployed for the promotion of both art and the artists. People from different countries desire to purchase paintings and souvenirs as gifts for their loved ones, therefore a variety of cultural mix is required to fulfill their demands. Hence it can bring a great fortune for the government and organizers.
To sum up, I strongly believe that exhibiting a mixture of artifacts derived from different countries attracts art lovers, promotes tourism and gives economic benefits for the country rather than limiting the museums to display the regional artworks.

Museums are a place to showcase important things, and also help to spread knowledge to many. Many countries encourage the establishment of museums to depict the nation’s great works. Some of them also include work from all over the world. In this essay, I will discuss the points of including art works from all over the world, and also whether to include works from the country itself in the museums.
Museum in a center of knowledge with visual items which makes everyone to grasp the details faster and understand the concept in better way rather than reading on books or internet. Hence, including art work from all over the globe not only helps to build one’s knowledge, but also helps build confidence in particular domain, as it promotes the first-hand experience in the concepts which one has learnt. For example, in a art museum near Dharmasthala(Karnataka), there are Mandala art works, which actually originated in Africa. Many people all over the world are inspired by this new form of artwork, and thus are creating fascinating artwork. By including global art work in museums, youngsters are encouraged to enhance their exposure and also try out new domains. This also has an added advantage as people need not travel to places to obtain information on concepts outside their country.
On the other hand, few museums display art works pertaining to their country. Such kind of museums promote the nation’s rich culture and heritage. They try to inculcate the values of their nation onto the young citizens. For instance, the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat has the rich, authentic khadi clothes which gives a sense of India’s struggle for freedom. It awakens one’s patriotism and also makes one realize about Gandhi’s value of non-violence. This makes us aware of the history, but there has been enormous changes from the previous times. There are better and comfortable fibers which is available globally.
People visit museums to enrich their knowledge and in my opinion, it is better to include art works from all over the world rather than showcasing their own country’s artwork. This will broaden the horizon of people’s outlook and will be betterment of all.
