It is seen that an increasing number of parents are giving electronic gadgets to their offspring because they believe that this will teach them new technological skills. However, I believe the drawbacks prevail over the benefits as it distracts young people from their studies and affects their health.
On the one hand, I acknowledge that allowing kids to use computers and tablets will improve their cognitive skills. This is because the constant exposure will help them to get familiar with different applications which will be helpful for their future. To exemplify, students can study and learn different things from the content available online which will help them to stay ahead of their peers. Therefore, early exposure to computers and tablets will help the kids in their learning process.
Nevertheless, I believe that the drawbacks are more pronounced. Firstly, unlimited access to computers and games will distract them from their studies. This is because limitless content available online keeps them engaged for hours and consequently, reduce their interest in studies. In addition, it keeps them socially disconnected and affects their health. For instance, research has shown that kids who spend long hours playing on the computer tend to be physically inactive and this inactivity affects their mental and physical health. As a result, it has a negative impact on the overall development of the child.
To conclude, although allowing the children to play on computers and tablets will help them learn technology skills, there are also health consequences / impacts to consider. Therefore, parents should engage their kids in physical activities and limit the use of electronic gadgets.
