Band 7 IELTS essay sample

Around the world, youngsters are motivated to pursue a gap year after completing school and before entering the university in order to travel, gain work experience and for personal rejuvenation. Many argue that these opportunities are extremely beneficial when they finally agree to return to studying full-time. Therefore, I completely agree with the statement that taking a year out is helpful.

Many people support the opinion that taking a break before joining the university offers young minds a sense of freedom and allows them to realize their dreams and interests and can help them narrow down the major they would prefer to pursue in the university. For instance, travelling allows a person to understand their inner soul and figure out their strengths and weaknesses.

Similarly, many argue that learning after obtaining certain years of work experience allows the students to correlate the theory they learned at school with the real-world situations and often lead them to find realistic solutions. They are also considered to be open minded due to various experiences they had gathered which are considered to have a significant effect on their thought process. For example, working at a young age teaches the youth how to handle hurdles and communicate with customers or co-workers which would be later beneficial in the universities as it makes the students stronger to face any academic challenges or bullying. However, some may argue that taking a year out will make students difficult to cope with the academic pressure and demands.

To conclude, one year of non-academic life certainly offers several advantages to an individual as it will allow them to reflect on themselves.
