Since people who consume alcohol are more likely to commit crimes, some people argue that alcohol should be banned. According to them restricting alcohol can be the right way forward, but it is rarely the case. In my opinion, banning alcoholic drinks might help but it is not the ultimate solution and other measures are required.
I strongly believe that banning drinks is not a crime deterrent as crime has many other triggers. It could be caused by moral depravity, destitution or ignorance. Most crimes, especially, the more heinous ones like murders or terrorist attacks are pre-meditated and the perpetrators are not under any influence. Some crimes are also committed at the spur of the moment and alcohol is not always to blame. Having said that banning alcohol will certainly reduce minor offences to a great extent. For example, it will significantly reduce incidences of domestic and sexual abuse. People are more likely to commit such crimes under the influence of alcohol. It will certainly reduce traffic crimes. When people are under the influence of alcohol, they cannot think coherently. Hence, they may commit things they will not normally do.
However, banning alcohol is not the ultimate solution as it is not the number one cause of crime. In order to reduce the crime rate, it is important to elevate the standard of living for all people in a society. Most criminals hail from very poor backgrounds. Some have dysfunctional families or are in abusive relationships. All of these issues need to be addressed if you want to reduce the crime rate. Creating more job opportunities for educated youth and providing counseling to people suffering from mental health issues should help.
To conclude, banning alcohol will have only a negligible impact on the crime rate. A better solution is to create more job opportunities and provide support to people in distress. More crimes can be prevented by enhancing living standards and addressing personality disorders and mental health issues.

Thanks to an increase in the consumption of hard liquors, many countries are reporting a rise in alcohol related crimes. However, while many people believe that such crimes can be reduced by completely banning the sale of liquor, I still feel that there are better ways to reduce alcohol induced crimes.
On the one hand, banning the sale of alcohol can reduce crimes. When there is no way to buy alcohol, it will automatically reduce its consumption. Take India, for example. The Indian Government has prohibited the sale of liquor in Bihar, a state in India, which has led to a considerable decline in domestic violence cases in the state. Thus, I concede that banning alcohol seems to be a good solution.
However, despite the obvious results of prohibiting the liquor sale, I still believe that preventing alcohol induced crimes is a better way to remedy the situation. There are various ways to manage these crimes such as imposing hefty fines on offenders, or longer jail term to the criminals booked under alcohol related crime. Likewise, the government should also limit how much liquor a shop can sell in a day, resulting in a restricted quantity available for consumption. In my opinion, when alcohol is banned, people will resort to other replacements like tobacco or drugs, which will only worsen the situation. Also, if alcohol is banned, people may resort to illicit liquor. Hooch tragedies are common in states where alcohol is illegal. Therefore, preventing these crimes seems to be a feasible way to tackle this problem.
Finally, another way to control alcohol related crime is increasing the price of liquor. This will mean that people have to spend more money on the same quantity triggering a decline in its consumption. I believe that banning alcohol not only affects people who do not commit any crime after consuming it, but also impacts the businesses which sell them. Therefore, in my opinion, if the prices are increased, the consumption can probably be reduced.
To conclude, although banning of alcohol seems to be a good way that might reduce alcohol related crime rates, I feel that effectively managing such crimes and increasing alcohol prices are better ways to resolve this issue.

People are more likely to commit crimes when they are drunk. Actually, criminal activities are particularly high among people addicted to alcohol. Hence, some people argue that alcohol should be banned. In my opinion, banning alcohol might help, but it is not the best solution.
Banning alcohol can be considered as an effective measure to reduce criminal activity because studies have shown that people are more likely to commit crime under the influence of alcohol. When a person drinks, they lose their ability to think coherently and this causes them to commit a variety of offences. For instance, recently cases of serious crimes like harassment of women and children at home and workplaces are escalating. In the majority of these cases, the accused one will be a drunkard. Moreover, several innocent people are losing their lives or getting seriously injured in road accidents due to careless driving by such people. Therefore, in order to avoid such situations, banning alcohol may be helpful
On the other hand, banning alcohol alone will not help. Several other measures are also required to reduce the crime rate. Strict enforcement of law and order is one of them. For example, in a country like India, laws are often lax and there are plenty of loop holes. This has to change. By expediting criminal proceedings and enforcing stringent laws, the government can reduce criminal activities to a great extent. When people are aware of the repercussions of their actions, they are less likely to engage in offensive actions.
To conclude, ban on alcohol might reduce the crime rate; however, other measures like stricter enforcement of laws are better at reducing the crime rate.
