Band 7 IELTS essay sample
Some people argue that people living in the modern times do not have anything to learn from history. In my opinion, lessons from the past help us to build our future and hence they are important to us.
Apparently, there are various reasons to learn from the past. Chiefly, yesteryears always remind us of old mistakes, which provides the opportunity for individuals to learn from their mistakes. For instance, we realise the value of freedom from our independence struggle. Although, colonialism may not return, ultimately, people can learn the importance of self-governance from freedom struggle. Thus, knowledge of history is imperative for everyone. Indubitably, history serves as a guide and inspiration as well because many people sacrificed their lives for attaining independence. Consequently, people should not ignore history.
Expanding further, there is no denying that history can enable people to acquire knowledge about traditional values. Admittedly, history is very essential to better understand the present and pass that knowledge down to new generations for building a better society in future. To illustrate, had such values not conveyed to the younger generation, it would not only demolish the traditional cultural values, but also cause the younger minds to lose an opportunity to stay rooted. Therefore, it is mandatory to learn from historical perspectives for further growth.
In conclusion, I again reiterate that history helps us to understand values of old tradition and also widens knowledge of people with better analysis of past experiences.
