Band 7 IELTS essay sample

The role of governments in supporting people of other countries is a major topic that concerns today’s society. While there is a predominant belief that governments should only focus on developing their own country, I firmly believe that governments should allocate a part of their budget to support other nations, in parallel to covering the needs of their own society.

On the one hand, governments’ main responsibility is to fulfill the needs of their own country. For example, if most of the individuals are struggling to provide their primary needs, the government should not spend money to help other countries. To illustrate, in the countries where people are suffering from a lack of employment or the majority of the people’s wage is below the poverty line and the country is in a big crisis due to inflation, the government can not offer help to other countries. If the people discover that their government is spending the country’s budget to help others, while they are in a significant need, they will
more likely go on strikes or stop paying taxes. Thus it will lead to economical collapse.

At the same time, we are all humans living across the globe, and the country’s boundaries should not stop us from helping each other If we are capable of doing so. For example, some countries have been at war for a long time, and other countries can help to bring back peace to these countries but not to support by providing weapons. In addition, undeveloped countries such as some African countries are facing severe problems. The basic human needs and facilities such as food or clean water is not available; it is good to help these countries by providing food or first aid medication. Moreover, any country might face natural disasters such as floods, forest fires, or earthquakes. Indeed, they can use the help of other countries to recover the damage.

In conclusion, it is true that governments can not help everyone but in my opinion countries should allocate a budget for both internal and external support.
