Young people are fond of taking risks in order to advance in their careers as well as in their personal lives. In this essay, I shall prove citing a few examples why the disadvantages of this practice / tendency far outweigh the advantages.
To begin with, when a person takes a professional risk, they as well as their families are affected. For example, leaving a job with a stable income to start a business might sound like an attractive option but it may throw the dependants into a doom of uncertainty especially because 99% of new businesses are bound to fail within the first 10 years. Secondly, undertaking a risky trek / expedition with one’s wife and children puts the whole family in danger.
On the contrary, undertaking daring tasks in the workplace may occasionally be very rewarding. Let’s take Steve Jobs for example. He exited his low paying job in a marketing company and went on to start Apple with a group of friends, which became the most valuable electronics brand in the world within a span of 10 years. However, there are very few examples of such people. Most people who risked their career or life to achieve something spectacular have failed miserably. Hence, I believe that one must never take expensive risks. However, there is nothing wrong with taking calculated risks.
To sum it up, while taking risks may occasionally lead to tremendous growth in our careers, it is mostly detrimental to us as well as our families since it jeopardises their financial stability and may even endanger their lives.
