Some people opine that extinction of species is a natural process and hence humans need not attempt to prevent it. However, others disagree. There could be some substance in the former view but I do strongly disagree and believe that all possible efforts should be made to prevent other life-forms from dwindling.

The argument in favor of treating extinction as a normal process rests on the theory that it is nature’s way of sustaining life on earth and thus people must not interfere with it. This opinion is further validated by examples such as the extinction of dinosaurs and the advantages it brought to other forms of life. For instance, human life form came into existence after the dinosaurs disappeared. However, the aforementioned viewpoint fails to consider the disastrous effects of human activities that are rapidly causing flora and fauna to cease to exist. Many species declined rapidly in numbers in recent years owing to detrimental side effects of commercial activities and exploding world population. For example, extensive garbage dumping, rapid deforestation, and extensive exploitation of natural resources are some of the major causes that are leading to the destruction of ecological environment required for other life-forms to survive.

Hence in my opinion, extinction in recent years is more an unfortunate consequence than a natural one and people must recognize the adverse effects of losing various animal species which help to maintain balance of life cycle on earth and also contribute to the beauty and diversity of our planet. Hence, all necessary efforts must be taken to safeguard them from disappearing.

To conclude, the process of extinction is argued to be a natural cycle and no interference is expected. However, it is the result of many harmful human-factors and thus these must be checked and controlled. The existence of diverse species on earth is vital to its ecological sustainability.
