Travel industry experienced a boom in the later part of 20th century. Some people would argue that it has seriously impacted the local population and environment conditions but I disagree with the statement as tourism has led to enormous growth in the economy of poor countries and helped people by creating job opportunities in the sector. I will discuss the pros and cons in the forthcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, tourism has helped various weaker nations to uplift their failing economies such as Thailand and Egypt which only relies on holiday makers. Through their money, government authorities can foster their states better for tourism. Additionally, authorities in order to ensure safety of the international visitors provide better law and order enforcement, improved transportation and health care facilities which in turn benefit the local inhabitants. Moreover, if money is used appropriately, they can advertise on different channels to attract more tourists. Another reason is that it has helped in creating employment for local people. The local entrepreneur and business men can earn handsome profits by providing great services and fulfilling their needs. The company or five star hotels have tie-ups to tour guides who provide cultural and historic knowledge of the city for instance Taj Mahal.
However, there are a few adverse effects as well. Firstly, tourists go to clubs and pubs in the evening for alcohol consumption which increases noise pollution and crime rates in the city. Secondly, air pollution from the flights can be hazardous to the environment. Nevertheless, government authorities in order to ensure public welfare, they should impose stern laws and regulations to maintain peaceful. Likewise, pollution from flights can be minimised by putting great engineers and field related workers on it.
Henceforth, it can be concluded that tourism has shown tremendous benefits for local people and growth in economic sector and the effects can be minimised by putting strict rules and laws for public welfare. The benefits will definitely outweigh the risks.
