Band 8 IELTS essay sample 1

According to some people, in the future, most people will choose local destinations instead of overseas tourist places for spending their holidays. However, I disagree with this view because in my opinion, people, especially youngsters, are curious to explore different parts of the world. Also, there is enormous improvement in air connectivity. Traveling is now faster and cheaper.

In recent years, we have witnessed a significant rise in the number of visitors eager to explore a new country and see the famous attractions there. This preference is particularly common among affluent and healthy young people. For instance, enthusiastic tourists love to explore relatively unknown countries with a history of rich heritage like Bali. It has recently become a hot honeymoon destination.

Improved connectivity has also played a vital role in encouraging people to visit far away locations. Affordability of traveling coupled with options for easy accommodation booking make sure that tourists have some prior idea about the cost associated with the trip with the help of service providers like Airbnb. We have also seen a rise in the number of direct flights connecting distant locations with ease, and intense competition in the airline service industry has made the prices affordable.

To conclude, culture and geo diversity differentiate holiday experiences received in different countries, and it is hard to compare the international destinations with the attractions within the country. Furthermore, affordability has reduced the financial burden on middle-class people eager to explore foreign countries. Of course, domestic tourism will also increase in the future, but local destinations are unlikely to replace exotic foreign locations.

Travelling and exploring places has always been a desire of humans. It is believed by a certain section of the society that in the coming years people will tend to choose their home country over international destinations. I completely disagree with this notion and believe that international tourism will flourish due to numerous reasons which will be discussed further in this essay.

To begin with, people with disposable income do not mind spending money on a foreign location. In other words, most of these tourists prefer to choose vacation spots which are far away from their countryside. Just like people living in the plains want to visit the mountains and beaches, those from the colder countries prefer to visit warmer regions and vice-versa. For instance, according to a recent survey conducted by the Tourism industry, countries like Thailand and Indonesia attract more than seventy per cent of the tourists from all over the world. Thus, it helps the countries to boost their economy, and at the same time, it helps the tourists to explore the international destinations.

Secondly, many people travel to explore and discover the cultural heritage of other countries. To add on, people travel to gain awareness of new customs, cultures, cuisines, people and places. This not only broadens their horizons but also teaches them various aspects of that place. For example, according to a recent survey conducted by a travel magazine, almost thirty per cent of the people travel to learn the cultural differences of places and explore different cuisines. For these reasons, people will continue to travel abroad and enjoy the charm of those exotic places.

To conclude, the tourism industry is currently hit by many flying restrictions; however, it will rise back to its glorious heights once the world recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic. I believe that holiday-goers will continue to explore and discover different locales and will not be constrained to traveling within their native places.

Some people believe that in the coming years / decades, people will prefer tourist destinations in their own country to destinations abroad. I do not quite agree with this view. In my opinion, domestic as well as international tourism will flourish in the coming decades and I see no reason why people should prefer domestic destinations to international destinations.

Local tourism is not a substitute for international tourism. You have to visit specific places for specific experiences. For example, you can’t watch Niagara Falls in India. Likewise, you can’t see Taj Mahal or Ajanta Caves in the US. You can’t go on a desert safari in South India. For this reason, people who can afford to travel abroad will continue to do that. Local destinations will not suffice for them no matter how enchanting they are. People visit foreign countries because it gives them the opportunity to learn more about an alien culture. Another reason is that airfares are falling, so more people can travel abroad. The disposable income that people have is also increasing.

Having said that, local tourism will also flourish in the coming decades. These days, most people have very stressful jobs. They are desperate for a getaway and traveling fits the bill perfectly. Consequently, footfalls in local tourist places will also increase in the coming years. Traveling to local destinations is cheaper and easier and most people can afford it so people are going to visit local tourist places.

In conclusion, in my opinion, local tourism will definitely get a boost in the future, but it is unlikely to replace international tourism. Those who can afford it will definitely travel abroad.
