These days / Nowadays, crime novels are the best selling books across the globe. In my opinion, this popularity is largely due to their plots full of twists and suspense. However, it is a negative development because exposure to crime stories disturbs our mind and it might even encourage some people to commit crime.
There are several reasons why crime novels and series are more famous nowadays in several countries. First of all, some crime books and series are based on real life events and this makes the audience more interested in them. The main reason for the popularity of of the crime genre is its shock value. Crime is not something that happens to most of us. The vast majority of people have no chances of getting robbed, cheated, raped or murdered. Yet, we hear about such stories almost every day. This creates is us a strange fascination. We are aware of the possibility that this could happen to us too and hence we want to learn more.
In my view, though it is thrilling to watch a crime drama it has several negative impacts. To start with, as most of the kids have access to internet connection these days, they unfortunately get inspired by these crime shows and try to implement some techniques shown. Also, in many shows crime is justified. This sends a very negative message to the society.
To conclude, crime novels and series are gaining popularity because of their shock value. Unfortunately, this has a negative impact on the society because these novels and shows often glorify crime and inspire many people to commit crime.
