Every place has a history. In some nations, there is an increase in the number of people curious about the history of their home. This curiosity can stem from a quest for knowledge about the place they live in.

Generally speaking, people will inquire about the history of their home only if they are living in an old and impressive building. If you live in a recently built small house, you will not want to find out about the people who occupied it before. So, the main reason that encourages people to research is the age of their home. If it is old and stood the test of time, it will most probably have a story to tell. This story in most cases can be a source of pride for the new occupants. Another reason to research history is to find out whether anything untoward has happened in that house. This is important for many people because in several parts of the world, people are worried about haunted buildings.

Knowing the history of the building may also help people to avoid legal issues when they want to sell it. Moreover, the value of a place doubles if it is associated with some major historical events. Individuals make sure that they are not missing out on this key point before selling their house. Recently in Tamil Nadu, a house was sold to the government for 20 crores as it had a history of Mahatma Gandhi staying there for a few days during the freedom struggle. People often trace their house’s history not to miss such an opportunity.

Land and revenue is the department which holds all the details about a place. These departments hold data regarding the previous owners of the house and any special happenings there. Old people who have lived a long time in that village or town may also be able to offer valuable information.

In short, people are researching the history of their homes out of curiosity and to discover details that might increase its value. The land and revenue department is definitely the right place for such information. Old people who have lived all their life in that place can also provide valuable information.
