Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample
No doubt, the rapid rise of globalization can be attributed to the internet, air travel and commercial interactions among nations. Many people assert that the growing interactions between these countries through globalization are a good trend. I certainly agree with this viewpoint.
To start with, globalization brings several benefits to citizens all across the world. It offers a wide range of goods and services to people. We can buy imported food items, wear international brands and entertain ourselves by watching international movies and shows. Besides this, it benefits the local businesses who can now access the global markets for better profits. In fact, globalisation has become a boon for the countries where there is a scarcity of capital and availability of low cost labour. The multinational companies have been establishing their production units in these countries and providing this cheap manpower an opportunity to work and earn money. As a result, the graph of poverty stricken people is declining in these countries. Therefore, I assert that globalization is a good thing happening in this world.
On the contrary, some people believe that globalization is detrimental for their local culture, language and core values. If all people watch English movies, eat foreign food and wear jeans due to globalisation, our own culture will slowly disappear from this world. Besides this, multinational companies are moving to countries where labour and resources are cheap. Often this leads to the exploitation of workers in poor countries. While these are all legitimate concerns, in my opinion, they are still no valid reasons to discourage globalization. As for preserving native cultures, it is the responsibility of each community. People should embrace their culture to ensure that it does not get lost. Regarding the loss of employment, the governments can enact laws to prevent this from happening.
In conclusion, many people think that globalization is not a beneficial development for their culture and people; however, in my view, due to globalization we can enjoy different goods and services. It is also contributing to the economy of those developing countries where labour is cheap by generating employment.
