Nowadays, skin whitening products are incredibly popular across the world and provide huge profits for the companies involved in their sale. This is because of media that shows the white skin as ideal for all. Certainly, this trend has adverse effects on individuals and the society.
To commence with, one of the predominant reasons why people use whitening products is media influence. To illustrate, media shows that white skinned people are more successful and beautiful than the ones who have dark skin. Keeping this impression in mind, people use different cosmetic products to enhance their skin color. In addition, white skin color is linked with status. Since the high standard people always stay inside without much exposure to the sun, they have clean and bright skin. Therefore, many people use whitening creams to show-off.
Of course, these products have negative effects on people’s health. For instance, companies mix chemicals in these products and they are harmful to the skin. A recent study has shown that the ingredients of these products are carcinogenic and may cause cancer if applied regularly. There are detrimental effects on the society as well. People with darker skin believe that white is better than black. Owing to this, they try to avoid being part of social events; as a result, they suffer from depression and stress.
To conclude, it is indeed a fact that whitening products have a profitable market. Media influence is one of the major factors contributing to this trend. However, steps should be taken to change this mindset as it has hazardous effects on people and the society.

In many countries across the world, there is a huge demand for the cosmetic products, which transform the colour of people’s skin to white. Hence, businesses selling these products are making more profits. There are myriads of reasons for using these beauty products, but the over usage of these cosmetics will have a negative impact on a person’s health.
On the one hand, young people whose skin is fair are gaining a lot of job opportunities when compared to the people with dark skin colour. For example, when we consider the entertainment industry, directors and producers are more interested to employ light skinned people to act in their movies, web series and serials. Moreover, many individuals believe that skin colour plays a vital role in winning the attention of not only the public but also the employers. In addition, nowadays, the status of a person depends on their skin colour, as the light coloured people are treated with more respect in several situations. Therefore, many people buy cosmetics to look fair.
However, regular and excessive use of these products have adverse effects on health. Some of them may contain ingredients that damage the skin in the long term. Regular use of fairness creams can even lead to permanent pigmentation. Another downside of this practice of selling fairness is that it makes dark-skinned people feel inferior. A person’s skin colour largely depends on the environment they live in. As such, there is nothing to be proud of or ashamed of fair or dark skin. Instead of promoting the idea that all skin tones are beautiful, these cosmetics are whitewashing racism and that practice should not be tolerated.
In conclusion, people tend to buy fairness creams because of the misconception that fair is beautiful. In my opinion, this is a negative practice and cannot be promoted as fairness products can be harmful for the skin in the long term. They also promote racism.
