In contemporary settings, it is common for some employees who are above 60 to still work in many places; however, some people believe that seniors should retire. While they argue that) this situation may result in some social issues, I do not agree with them, and I believe that this is beneficial to these elderly people, their employers and their young colleagues.
Prolonging retirement age may take a toll on social stability. This is mainly because the lack of job opportunities will worsen the already serious conflicts between the booming job seekers and the senior workers. Consequently, those people who are out of employment are more likely to resort to illegal ways to obtain money to earn a living. The increase in crime rates is a totally negative thing for the whole society. However, this will not be much a problem if seniors limit themselves to positions where age and experience matter more than academic qualifications and fitness. This way, the adverse impact exerted by them on young job seekers can be limited.
Conversely, I believe that the fact that workers whose ages have surpassed 60 are still employed can generate more benefits. To commence with, most of these aged workers have accumulated ample experience, so they often bear the responsibility of training the newbies. This can accelerate the progress of new / fresh employees since they can learn from the mistakes their seniors made when they were young and avoid them.
Besides, during their long working years / their work experience spanning decades, they have cultivated strong communication abilities due to their frequent involvement in cooperating with their colleagues who are diversified in personalities and backgrounds. Therefore, when their young coworkers engage in some complex projects involving cross-department coordination, they are always assigned the task of working as a consultant by their boss, since they can communicate with those colleagues in other branches or departments better and achieve better outcomes.
In conclusion, I totally believe that the trend of extending retirement age is a positive thing.
