Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample

Foreign junk foods are gradually replacing native or local foods in many countries around the world. Some people believe that this phenomenon has bad effects on the country’s citizens and communities. This essay agrees with the argument that consuming fast foods rather than traditional cuisine has negative impacts on people’s health.

Firstly, these foreign foods may not suit individual’s health in other countries due to various aspects like weather and availability of the food. Secondly, having junk foods in the long term can lead to serious medical disorders. For example, regular consumption of fast foods has been linked to a variety of health problems like obesity, diabetes and cardio vascular problems.

Over dependence on fast foods affects family ties too. Cooking and eating food together is a great way for families to spend time together. When they turn to readily cooked packaged meals that can be eaten in front of the television, family ties are affected. There are impacts on communities too. Food joints selling traditional foods are running out of business. Likewise, people engaging in the processing of traditional foods are also losing their livelihoods. You should have mentioned all of these points. At the same time, multinational fast food giants are earning huge profits.

To conclude, I would say, that consuming traditional foods has a positive impact on social and family welfare. Moreover, easily available native foods have greater nutritional value than the tinned or canned international junk foods.
