In many countries, there are both co-educational and single sex schools. Some people argue that children attending single gender schools are more likely to face various disadvantages in their adulthood. I fully agree with this view. In my opinion, attending mixed gender schools is more beneficial for children.
The school is supposed to be a microcosm of the world where children get to interact with both peers and seniors and juniors coming from different socio-cultural and economic backgrounds. Needless to say, the years spent at school play a crucial role in shaping the personality of a child and making them what they are. Children attending a mixed gender school are confident and comfortable in the company of members of the opposite sex. This benefits their career and relationships.
In a single sex school, the scope of interaction and exposure to the world outside is pretty limited. Here, boys can only interact with boys and girls can only interact with girls. This inability to interact with members of the opposite sex, unfortunately, has a negative impact on their personality. Most of the time, these children grow up into diffident adults who do not know how to conduct themselves properly in the company of members of the opposite gender. This can seriously affect their ability to build meaningful relations. It could even affect their career prospects because if they are not able to freely interact with all of their colleagues regardless of their gender, it will affect their productivity and work outcome.
To conclude, single sex education hurts the confidence level of students and makes it difficult for them to interact with members of the opposite sex. Since in the modern workplace men and women are supposed to cooperate, collaborate and compete with one another, co-education is better for them.
