Band 8 IELTS Essay Sample

In many Countries, the amount of crime is increasing. What do you think are the main causes of Crime? How can we deal with those causes?

Criminal activities have shown growth in most parts of the world. There are several reasons but in my opinion two major reasons are lack of formal education and unemployment and they are related to each other.

A recent study shows that crime rate has declined by approximately 30% in those countries where better employment opportunities are available like South Korea, UAE and Qatar. To succeed in creating better job opportunities the government should introduce right policies and implement them without any discrimination. For instance, the UAE has introduced a new system that makes it easy to start your own business and have strict labor law to protect employee rights which ultimately helps to divert young people from any kind of criminal activities.

Another solution which can play an important role in preventing people especially youngsters from indulging in any kind of illegal activities is formal education. China is the right example for that. Recently Tim Cook CEO of Apple Corporation said in his interview that China holds the biggest pool of skilled labor than any other country. This was only possible through introducing free formal technical education policy to their young people and providing onsite experience at the same time. People can also play an important role in reduction of crime rate by being more vigilant and responsible in their neighborhood.

To conclude, lack of education and employment opportunities are the main reasons for the increase in the crime rate. By providing vocational education for free or at affordable rates and by creating more employment opportunities the government can address this problem to a great extent.

In many countries, crimes rates amongst younger people has been rising. Discuss the causes and solutions for this problem.

It is observed that across the world, committing of offences by the minor age-groups is on rise. This essay will discuss the plausible reasons, which includes increased number of media generated negative influencers and unhealthy family environments, and pragmatic solutions to tackle the problem by increased counselling, reinforcing strict rules on media content and ensuring healthy family systems.

To begin with, one of the major factor is the creation of too much celebration villainous characters in our entertainment world. Be it our movies or OTT series, often we see the main protagonists are either underworld dons or a highly intelligent con-artists and such characters are portrayed with drinking or fighting scenes. Furthermore, these negative characters are glorified and celebrated around the world and this influences youngsters to imitate such portrayals in bid to look cool. For example, Moneyheist on Netflix is the top rated and most watched series in the world and it is about bunch of highly intelligent men trying to rob banks.

The second major factor is the environment at home which highly impacts the mental-growth of kids. It is a common observation that if there is neglect attitude towards children or abusive environment exists in families, juveniles tend more to resort to negative behaviours and indulge in unlawful activities. Furthermore, if parents themselves consume drugs or alcohol, their kids are mostly likely to do so. For example, a study on number of minors jailed have revealed that most of them have family background with either a abusive or a estranged parent.

To curb the crime-rates, it is important to put sufficient restrictions on media content and this may include right censorship and increase in viewers age limit. Also simultaneously, children and teenagers must be effectively educated on harmful effects of law-breaking activities and its impact on their future. Good counselling helps in raising awareness and maturity in them. Meanwhile, also the young ones must be protected from abusive families and parents must encouraged to pay attention to their children’s growing values.

In conclusion, the negative content and lack of adequate environment at home pushes younger people towards crime but the numbers can be curbed by having in place effective limits on generated media, promote counselling sessions to spread knowledge about cons of unlawful activities and further ensuring healthy growing atmosphere.
