Task 1 Academic IELTS report sample

The chart given above shows carbon dioxide emissions in grams per passenger kilometer for different modes of transport in the US while the pie chart shows the percentage of people traveling by each mode of transport.

Flying by air is the most polluting mode of transport in terms of the emission of carbon dioxide. Air planes produce nearly three times as much carbon dioxide as passenger cars which are the next biggest polluters. Strangely, airplanes are one of the most popular modes of transport.

Buses are the third biggest producer of carbon dioxide but they are much cleaner than airplanes or passenger cars. Coaches are the least polluting mode of transport. Ships and trains which produce the same amount of carbon dioxide are also relatively pollution-free. They produce only slightly more carbon dioxide than coaches.

While 30% of the US population travels by railways, 25% relies on air travel. The third most popular mode of traveling is passenger cars. 15% of the population use cars. Only 5% of the population seems to use buses for traveling. The percentage of the population traveling by ships and coaches is nearly the same.
