IELTS speaking: practice questions with answers

 Speaking test: part 2

Examiner: Talk about a restaurant that you have visited recently. Please say

– What restaurant was it?
– When and where was it?
– What did you like the most about it?

Candidate: I recently visited the Modern Café in Andheri. It is about two kilometers from my apartment, so getting there is hardly an issue. Last week a friend of mine came from Kerala to attend a job interview. This was his first trip to Mumbai and he wanted to taste the local food. As I can’t cook Maharashtrian dishes I decided to take him to a restaurant. Obviously, Modern Café was my first choice. It is my favourite restaurant and I go there often. The best thing about Modern Café is that it one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Andheri. They serve both South Indian and North Indian foods but they specialize in Maharashtrian dishes. I absolutely love the quiet ambience of this restaurant. Also, their staff is very polite. They will go out of their way to ensure that their customers are happy comfortable. We ordered Pav Bhaji. This was the first time my friend had eaten this dish. He loved it, so did I. He even expressed a desire to eat in this restaurant again. He has passed his interview and is getting ready to leave for Singapore. Before he leaves, I am planning to take him again to Modern Café.

Speaking test: Part 3

Examiner: Are there good restaurants in your area?

Candidate: Yes, there are several good restaurants in my area.

Examiner: What kind of food do they serve?

Candidate: I live in Andheri. There are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian restaurants here, but I feel that finding a vegetarian restaurant is easier. There are quite a few of them here and they serve both South Indian and North Indian dishes.

Examiner: Do you think restaurant food is healthy? Why?

Candidate: I like restaurant food, but I don’t think that it is very healthy. I eat out only when I don’t have time to cook a proper meal at home. Restaurants add a lot of additives and preservatives to enhance the taste and flavour of the food. In my opinion, they are bad for health.

Examiner: What makes a restaurant popular? Why?

Candidate: I feel that it is the quality of the food. People like to eat in restaurants that serve delicious foods. The staff also needs to be polite. The locality is important too. People should be able to access the restaurant easily.
