IELTS speaking practice
The following questions were asked in an IELTS speaking test recently held in India. Sample answers are also given.
Examiner: Where are you from?
Candidate: I come from Durgapur, which is a small town in the state of West Bengal.
Examiner: Do you work or study?
Candidate: I am studying astrophysics.
Examiner: Why did you choose this subject?
Candidate: I have always been fascinated by the stars and the solar system. I am keen on working for a space agency after completing my studies. I would like to contribute to the development of manned and unmanned space missions.
Examiner: Do you prefer to study individually or in a group?
Candidate: I would rather study individually. When I am with my friends I find it rather difficult to concentrate on my subjects.
Examiner: How do people usually show their happiness?
Candidate: I think it differs from person to person. I have seen people yelling, shouting or jumping with joy. I have also seen some people cry when they are happy. I have no special way of expressing my happiness. When I am happy I am much less likely to lose my temper. That is it.
