Model Answer
The bar graph given above shows the annual water usage in millions of cubic meters by industries in London. It shows the usage of both ground water and public supply.
Of all the industries the ones that use the least amount of water are fuel and textile industries. While the fuel industry uses 70 millions of cubic meters of ground water, the textiles industry uses 80 millions of cubic meters. Both industries use just 10 millions of cubic meters of public supply.
The industry that uses the highest amount of public supply water is machinery. It consumes 100 millions of cubic meters of public supply water and 10 millions of cubic meters of ground water.
The industry that uses the highest amount of both sources of water is the chemical industry. It uses 430 millions of cubic meters of ground water and 240 millions of cubic meters of public supply. While the paper industry consumes 210 millions of cubic meters of water per year, it is hardly dependent on public supply water. It uses just 20 millions of cubic meters of public supply.
In general, most industries use more ground water than public supplies. At least, four industries (paper, chemicals, food / drinks and metal) have water consumption exceeding 200 millions of cubic meters.
