There is an ongoing debate on whether a country’s government or ruling party should prioritise public services or focus their energy towards art and culture. I disagree with officials needing to pick sides between the two. The development of both categories of services are equally important for the progression of a country.
One of the main aim of any government is to provide certain benefits to its countrymen, which leads to the betterment of their lives and the society as a whole. This includes increasing accessibility by constructing roads, building public toilets in cities and villages as well as implementing garbage disposal plans. Advances like this not only help increase the overall economy, its citizens but also the enable tourism. Living in a country like India, where majority of the population resides in villages or smaller towns, expansion of this kind supports dwellers and also encourages them to explore and promote their artistic talents.
It is without a doubt, that culture plays a huge part in not only people’s lives but also the country as a whole. Many countries are able to attribute a significant revenue to their economy through art such as Music, Painiting and even Theatre. Taking an example of India once again, the country is made up of various cultural backgrounds. Each state has its own unique style of music, painting, dance form. It is necessary for governments to also invest in such avenues, because it reduces the villagers and tribes reliance on the government for income along with improving their overall lifestyle. Furthermore, development on this particular front will also lead international and domestic tourism. Tourists from around the world are always willing to pay a signigicant amount to witness these marvels.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate, how government stakeholders should look for solutions that allows both community development and cultural management to grow in tandem. Taking a step in this direction and investing in both will allow a country to grow to its fullest thereby allowing its citizens to reap the end benefits.
