The effect of violent television and video games on a society is a grave concern. While many people argue that violent programmes ought to be banned because of their bad influence on people especially children, others believe that they are a good source of entertainment. In my opinion, their influence on people is pernicious, and hence, they should be regulated.
According to one view, the violent films, serials and online games are mere medium mediums of enjoyment and relaxation. It is believed that watching violent actions or playing aggressive videogames is psychologically helpful as they allow the viewer or user to release their suppressed violent emotions in a safe way.
On the contrary, studies have shown that consistent exposure to foul language and bad conduct adversely influences people, and they begin to perceive violence as normal. For example, according to a recent study, children who regularly play aggressive video games, tend to be more aggressive and impulsive. Once violence becomes normalized in their psyche, they stop seeing it as a crime. Unfortunately, this gives rise to criminal tendencies in them. I personally think that such programmes need to be regulated since they are detrimental to individuals as well as the society.
In conclusion, people may have different opinions about the depiction of violence on television and in video games. In my opinion, violent content ought to be censured because it is malicious in nature.
