Fatherhood ought to be emphasized as much as motherhood. The idea that women are solely responsible for deciding whether or not to have babies leads on to the idea that they are also responsible for bringing the children up. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

People emphasize more on motherhood than fatherhood because children are borne by their mothers. However, I opine that fatherhood is as important as motherhood and fathers should play an equally important role in raising the child as the mother.

The father figure is extremely important for the children. To start with, no child can be born without a father. While it is true that the mother is often the one who decides whether she should have a baby or not, it does not mean that the father has no role to play in the life of the child he helped to produce. Even if the decision to have the child is taken by the mother, once the baby is conceived, the father should be there to play his role in parenting. He should provide an emotional anchor for the mother and the baby and also take care of other needs of the family. This is extremely important for many women as they have to quit their job or take a long break after having the baby.

The presence of father is essential for the child for so many reasons. First, in order to feel emotionally secure, the child should receive the love and care of both parents. Conversely, children raised in families where one parent is absent often develop various behavioural problems. They may also have difficulty forming meaningful relationships in future. To save children from such problems, the father should be there in their lives. Being raised by both parents is important for the healthy development of the child. While mothers are better at showing affection, fathers often set the rules of behaviour.

In conclusion, both parents have an equally important role in bringing up a child and hence, I agree with the argument that fatherhood should be lauded as much as motherhood.
