Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample
These days, fatherhood plays as important a role as motherhood. Some people argue that since women usually decide whether or not to have babies, they are also responsible for bringing the children up. I do not agree with this statement and I am going to discuss why.
Bringing up a child should be the joint responsibility of both parents. After all, both of them are equally responsible for producing the child. A person’s childhood life has great impact on their character and personality. At this stage of life, they need both parents in their life. Hence, even if the decision to have or not to have the baby was taken by the mother, the father cannot be absent from the life of the child. Instead, he should be there to love, guide and take care of the child until they are on their own.
It is not possible for mothers alone to take care of the physical, financial, emotional and intellectual needs of a child. Hence, both parents should be equally involved in taking care of the child. That means fatherhood should be emphasized as much as motherhood. For their healthy upbringing a child needs the love and care of both parents. If they don’t get it from both parents, there is a very high chance that they will go astray. It is a well-known fact that children raised in single parent households are more likely to be rebels or insecure individuals.
In summary, it is important for the couples to discuss and respect each other’s decision before having a baby. Now even if the decision to have the baby was taken by the mother, the father cannot shirk his responsibility of raising the child.
