Although regular exercise promotes health and happiness, a lot of people are still reluctant to follow a fitness regimen. This could be due to lack of awareness about the health benefits of regular exercise. It could also be due to age related ailments. Promoting healthy habits among people when they are still young and fit is the best way to ensure that they will maintain those habits in their retirement life as well.

Old people are already suffering from various ailments that prevent them from exercising regularly. For example, many of them have high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiac trouble due to the unhealthy life they led while they were young. Because of these health problems, they cannot follow a fitness regime without consulting a doctor and many of them are reluctant to do this. To prevent further complication, many of them just adopt a sedentary lifestyle. Loneliness is another issue that prevents seniors form leading an active life. After retirement many of them get confined to their homes where they merely watch TV or read books to kill time.

In order to encourage more and more seniors to get physically active and work out regularly, the government can take several measures. The first one, of course, is to create awareness about the health benefits of a fitness program. Healthy habits like eating right and exercising regularly should be inculcated in people during their childhood itself. This will encourage them to carry on those habits in their adult life as well. In addition, the government should arrange regular fitness check-ups for old people. This is an opportunity for them to discuss their health concerns with their doctors and receive appropriate fitness advice.

In conclusion, age related ailments and loneliness are the main factors that discourage many old people from having a fitness routine. Creating awareness and providing appropriate health information to people are some of the effective ways to encourage more old people to get physically active.
