Band 8 IELTS essay sample
There are several ways of dealing with the underprivileged people in all countries. There are plenty of causes of destitution but they can be resolved to a great extent. In this essay, I will discuss the factors causing global poverty and suggest some measures to overcome it.
Firstly, lack of education is the major factor across the globe that leads to privation. A lot of people do not get even elementary education due to a variety of reasons including financial constraints. When these children grow up, it is impossible for them to find a good job or provide for their family. Consequently, their children will also go through the same difficulties. It is a vicious cycle. Natural calamities, wars and social unrest are all causes of poverty. Every year, thousands of families are displaced by floods, droughts or wars. Most of them will end up spending several years in refugee camps where they suffer various hardships.
Making education universally accessible will certainly improve the situation but that is not the ultimate solution. In many poor families, parents refuse to send their children to school even though schooling is free because they want them to work and earn. The government should prevent this situation by offering free food and other basic amenities to poor families. Another way to reduce poverty is to enforce minimum wages. Not everyone can get a white collar job, but if there are minimum wages everyone will be able to earn enough to make a living. People displaced by wars or natural disasters need the assistance of rich nations who can rehabilitate them and help them rebuild their lives.
In conclusion, lack of education and employment are the main causes of world poverty. By making education universally accessible, offering food and other essentials at subsidized prices and rehabilitating people displaced by wars or natural disasters, governments can improve the situation to a great extent.
