Band 6.5 IELTS essay sample

Interview process has witnessed variety of changes over the years. In previous time, less personal and more professional questions were asked to the candidate. Contrary to it, in present time employers do ask for some personal information. There is a section of people who agree with this trend. At the same time, some people disagree to this and find this irrelevant. I believe that relevant personal information can help the employer to offer the best suited role for the candidate.

Nowadays, it is seen that many recruiters ask the applicants about their favourite leisure activity, marital status, having child or not etc. The fundamental reason behind this is to judge whether he or she will be able to give enough time for that job or not. Another important factor is to decide which role is best fitted to his/her personality. For instance, if a company is hiring a lady having two children and nobody is there to attend children at home, then she will be comfortable to do work from home rather than coming office for the whole day.

However, some people find this approach inappropriate and worthless. Rather they believe that professional achievement should be taken into consideration while appointing the new employer. Judgement on personal information sometimes may be misleading. For instance, if one software engineer has enough qualification for the particular job role but his hobby is to play online games. In this case, there are chances that employer may predict that candidate will waste his time on gaming and will not be give utmost dedication. So in such case, employer’s expertise can be overlooked and decision may get affected because of his /her personal interests.

To conclude, although getting personal information about the candidate is not necessary in all cases, but I believe that in order to get maximum productivity from employee, the employer should emphasis not only on the professional capabilities but also on the personal interests of the candidate.
