According to some people, engaging in fun activities with children is a better way to develop their creative and social skills than encouraging them to read. I believe that children should engage in all sorts of activities. They are not supposed to be book worms; nor are they supposed to spend their whole time plying.
In their quest to improve the cognitive abilities of the child, parents often fail to give enough importance to their physical development. To ensure sound physical health, it is essential to facilitate interaction between a child and his peers. In addition, doing memorable activities with a child can make them more active and subsequently, more creative and imaginative. It is also an undeniable fact that creativity is at its peak during childhood. Thus, by allowing a child to be more active, parents can ensure that they explore their surroundings better.
Reading is beneficial too and if parents help children choose the right books, it can be enjoyable too. I believe that reading is much better than dancing or playing football for developing creativity in children. Of course, reading does not improve social skills. Hence, in my opinion, children need to engage in all sorts of activities. Fun-filled physical activities are good; reading is also good.
In conclusion, enjoyable activities especially those involving parents or peers certainly help children develop various skills and creativity. This, however, does not mean that such activities are better than reading. Several studies have conclusively proven that children who read a lot are more creative and intelligent. Hence, in my opinion, children should engage in all sort of activities including reading.
